ACOUSTICS · MAEKAWA + EN 1793-2

Acoustic fence calculator

Pick the noise source, the fence build-up and the geometry — the tool returns the insertion loss in dB(A) and the perceived loudness reduction. Built on Maekawa thin-barrier diffraction (1968) bounded by the panel transmission loss per EN 1793-2.

ACOUSTIC FENCE SYSTEMS

Turn the noise calculation into a fence specification route

Use the calculator as the first technical filter, then match the boundary to a VisioMod fence family. Acoustic performance depends on height, continuity, panel build-up, source distance and site geometry, so final claims should always be reviewed against the project.

Lineo continuous slat route

For privacy-led residential boundaries where the project wants an aluminium rhythm, reduced gaps and a cleaner road-facing edge before acoustic review.

View Lineo

Bosco WPC mass route

For warmer garden boundaries where a denser infill and lower-maintenance timber look may fit residential noise-sensitive plots.

View Bosco

Cristallo glass wind/noise route

For terraces, pools or view-sensitive edges where a transparent barrier is needed and the project must balance sightlines, wind and acoustic expectations.

Modulo mixed-system route

For projects that need height changes, mixed infills, gate coordination, LED accessories or bespoke project review before the quote is finalized.

Before a fence is called acoustic

Treat the output as a planning estimate. A real acoustic fence brief needs the source, receiver, geometry, panel continuity and interruptions such as gates or steps before a useful reduction range can be discussed.

METHOD
Maekawa (1968) diffraction over a rigid thin barrier, Fresnel number at 500 Hz reference. Insertion loss is bounded by the panel transmission ceiling (R_w − 5 dB) per EN 1793-2 flanking guidance. Source levels are EU residential survey medians; site-specific noise levels can deviate ±5 dB. Outputs are first-order estimates for layout decisions, not a substitute for in-situ acoustic measurement.
